“ARTISTIC ELEMENTS OF PORTRAITURE”
Carl Caylor, PPA Certified, M. Photog., Cr. Intermediate
This class is for those who want to better themselves in the artistic world of photographic portraiture. This is a hands-on class. We will learn together to look for light, to use backgrounds to the best of our ability and to tell the story of our subjects. Carl will share his philosophies of artistic portraiture, what he looks for and what thought process he goes through when creating an image. This is a class designed to stimulate, energize, and stretch your imagination. Carl will share his views on such topics as: composition, lighting, color harmony and more. He will show how design is created, how to look for light, how to make portraits believable and interesting.
The quality level of a portrait can be enhanced with custom work after the original exposure. For this reason, you will also be working with your images in Photoshop to prepare them for printing. You will need a computer to download your images, a camera with a variety of lenses, memory cards, batteries & chargers, tripod, reflectors and a portfolio of images in electronic form to share with the class. *Students must bring their own camera, lenses, computer with current version of Photoshop CS3, and power strip & extension cord.*

Time….
All of photography is divided into matters of time. How much of it will the shoot consume?
How long will downloading the cards take?
How many hours must I sit in front of the screen editing the take, selecting the heroes then finishing them for delivery to my client?
And how much more of it will be spent to create bulletproof archives of my work?
Photography is a profession where a life’s worth of work is always available to the artisan who created it. The photographer’s life work is an immediate source of income, a retrospective of accomplishment and an invaluable inspiration for ideas. So preserving one’s life work is important.
Join Kevin Ames to learn hands on how to harness the power of Camera Raw (the most useful RAW converter on the planet) in Lightroom, Photoshop, and Bridge (the super file browser included free with Photoshop) to maximize the return for the time you spend in front of the computer downloading, editing, refining and archiving your work.
This class is designed to improve workflow, bolster creativity and jump-start the digital photographic previsualization process.

Cheri’s class is a beginner’s course and she will cover some easy techniques for watercolors, oils and pastels beginning with the prep work in Photoshop and then painting the images in Corel Painter.
She will also cover marketing and selling the painted portraits.
Cheri began her career 22 years ago as a photographic retoucher in Fitz-Symms in Augusta Ga. She did negative and print retouching, hand tinting as well as artwork for copy and
restoration of old photographs.
Cheri currently takes commissions for portrait paintings for other photographers as well as the fine art printing of them. She has been awarded three degrees, PPA Master Artist, MEI and PPA Craftsman.
Cheri’s fine art paintings begin as a digital photograph, then they are painted by hand, stroke by stroke using painting software, tablet and stylus and then printed as pigmented ink on fine art giclee or canvas giclee.

Ramfis Campiz and Michael Jospeh will cover the basics of studio lighting… from the classic “one light” approach, we’ll then add a second, third and so on, as well as discuss and demonstrate when and why these lighting set-ups could be used. We’ll also cover what type of soft boxes, light modifiers and reflectors you should consider using in different situations.
Although the main purpose of this special class is to cover the basics of studio lighting, we’ll allow the class the opportunity to take on a personality of it’s own as we see what areas you might need the most!
During the second half we’ll allow time for “hands-on”, which will allow everyone a chance to literally experience the opportunity of putting together a lighting set-up.

Noted for his 1st year Baby Plan, Frank had to take that idea and rethink the whole process to mold it to today’s “moms with a computer.” He teaches his techniques to studios all over the world.
Frank teaches in a way that a 5th grader could understand it. So…are you smarter than a 5th grader?
